The day before Ben leaves, we have a family day. It's become tradition that we have a scavenger hunt for the kids so they're happy and excited, not sad when dad goes back to Iraq. Every time is a little bit different, depending on what we have to do that day. This time, we went to a park and I numbered the presents 1-6 and wrote their names on them. Ben and I hid them while the kids played on the playground. We helped guide them to look for the presents (in order) until they got to the last one, which was for both of them. Ashton got a bouncy ball, a video game, video game controller, a bubble gun, and a Dora aqua doodle thing. Britten got spray glitter, a sticker set, a card-making set, bead kit, and a bubble gun. The final prize for both of them was an electric snow cone machine. I was hoping to do the scavenger hunt earlier in the day so we'd have time to come home and play with their things, but that didn't quite work out. But, we still made snow cones when we got home at 11pm that night.
